New assignment #5

Today I read an article on The Guardian titled ,,Meryl Streep kicks off a season of starry Netflix offerings''. I was surprised to see that Meryl will star in a Netflix production. I don't usually consider Netflix films or serieses too good so I was a bit puzzled after reading that article. However Meryl Streep is an extraordinary, well-respected, experienced actress and so I'm sure that she wouldn't agree to star in something that she didn't believe would be great. Maybe I should give this movie a chance after all.

New assignment #4

Today I listened to a BBC podcast titled ,,David Baddiel Tries To Understand - Crying'' hosted by David Baddiel. The main question of the podcast was why do we cry when we're sad or feel any other strong emotion. As it turns out, there are 3 kinds of tears and we are the only animals that are able to produce the third kind - emotional tears. David Baddiel interviewed many highly educated people and listened to every theory that they had came up with. However, none of this theories was a 100 % known to be correct. There isn't a verified answer to why we really cry, but I did enjoy listening to all those theories.

New assignment #3

Today I read an article on The Guardian titled ,,Students burn Latina author's book after she discusses white privilege''.  Jennine Capó Crucet's new book ,,Make Your Home Among Strangers'' follows a Latina student at a prestigious, primarily white university. I was shocked to read that after the lecture with the author, a group of white students burned several copies of her book. I never thought that such an event would actually take place in 2019. I find that act to be highly arrogant an crass. What was even more surprising to me is that the school decided not to take any actions against these students. We should fight to put an end to ignorance and racism.

New assignment #2

Today I listened to a BBC podcast called ,,A Point of View'' hosted by Tom Shakespeare. The episode I chose was titled ,,A Change of Tack". In the segment the host talked about how changing your mind shouldn't be seen as a weakness. I agree with everything Tom Shakespeare said in that episode. I think that uncertainty is good, just like the host said - we are only certain when we don't know much about what we're talking about. We shouldn't be afraid to change our minds, after all, changing our minds only proves that we are indeed thinking creatures. It shows that we've actually put in time and effort into an idea, that we thought it through and that it was important to us. Changing our minds only shows that we are flexible, we can listen and admit our mistakes.

New assignment #1

Today I read an article in The Guardian titled ,,Anarchists hijack climate march on day of violent protests in Paris''. During the afternoon so-called Black Bloc anarchists and ,,yellow vest'' protesters joined the Friday climate march, than began to smash shopping and business windows as well as torch mopeds and dustbins. In the end the police used teargas to disperse the crowds and over 120 people were arrested. I think that turning a peaceful, well-meaning march into a violent, politically-oriented riot was especially unnecessary this time. On Friday people all over the world gathered to fight for our planet. They marched in a good cause that should concern every single person living on Earth. This march wasn't supposed to be political. It's a shame that in France it turned out to be just that.

Today I watched a video on a death of Princess Diana. The video indicates that her death was not an accident. It explains how Princess Diana was thought of as a rebel in the royal household and how she even had a falling out with Queen Elizabeth. Princess Diana also divorced her royal husband what was never heard of before. There are many conpiracy theories on what was the actual cause of Diana's death and who was involved in it. Some people even say that she got out of the car accident fine with just a broken leg, yet she mysteriously died in the hospital. to take one for the team - poświęcić się, The bodyguard took one for the team. to dine - jeść kolację, They wanted to dine smoewhere else. a swarm - chmara, There was a swarm of paparazzis outside. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyyvcCOntNA
